Why it caught on: in Phantom Blood (manga 1987, anime 2012) the Hamon master Will Zeppeli demands to know how many lives DIO has sacrificed, and DIO answers: "Do you remember how many slices of bread you've eaten in your life?" The sneer made it the sub's way of saying you did something so often you stopped counting.
